Output Factory for InDesign User Guide

File Naming Settings

You can create variable output file names using tokens and custom text in the variable name field. To add tokens, drag them into the field. You can combine tokens with custom text, drag them inside the field to change their position, and delete them.

 

TOKENS

InDesign File Name
The name of original InDesign file (without the .indd extension).

Page # (section)
Page number (name) as represented by section numbering in InDesign when exporting as single pages,
or page range of the current spread when exporting as spreads,
or document page range when exporting as single document.

Page # (absolute)
Absolute page number in InDesign document,
or page range of the current spread when exporting as spreads,
or document page range when exporting as single document.

Section
The name of section to which the current page belongs (ignored during single file and book output).

Alternate Layout
The alternate layout to which the current page belongs (ignored during single file output).

Layer
The name of current layer if layer versioning is activated (otherwise this token is ignored).

Width
Page width in the ruler units specified in the document preferences. When exporting as single document, the dimensions of first page will be used. When exporting as spreads, the dimensions of first page of the spread will be used.

Height
Page height in the ruler units specified in the document preferences.

Units
Page size measurement units as specified in the document preferences (inches, millimeters, points etc.) Horizontal units will always be used.

Script Label
The script label token lets you insert text from specific text frame in InDesign document into the output file name. For the detailed info on assigning script labels in InDesign, click here.

Drag the Script Label token into the file name field and choose the "Define Script Label" menu from token's pop-up menu. Type the desired script label and click OK.

During output, the script label variable will be replaced by the contents of the text frame to which this label is assigned in InDesign.

Note: If you see <SL> and </SL> tokens instead of the Script Label token, please update to the latest version of Output Factory.

Paragraph Style
Use the contents of the first occurrence of the specified paragraph style (on a page/spread or in the document, depending on the output settings).

Drag token into the name field to specify the desired paragraph style.

Character Style
Use the contents of the first occurrence of the specified character style (on a page/spread or in the document, depending on the output settings.)

Drag token into the name field to specify the desired character style.

Image Name
Insert the name of the first image link file on either page/spread or in the InDesign file (depending on the output settings). This includes vector graphic links, too. Image file extension will not be included.

Batch #
The batch serial number as specified in the Serial # field.

InDesign File #
The file serial number in the current batch (the number formatting is defined in the Batch Serial # section).

Output File #
Serial number of the output file, relative to its source InDesign document (the number formatting is defined in the Batch Serial # section).

Serial #
A user-defined serial number. Drag the token into the field and click the token's pull-down menu to define the serial number and its format. Enter the start number with the desired number of leading zeros, if any. For example, if you'd like to start with the number 23 in a four-digit format, enter 0023.

Workflow
The current Output Factory workflow name.

Random Number
A random number (drag the token to the file name field to define the random number options).

User Name
The current user name.

Computer Name
The current computer name.

Date & Time
The current date/time components as specified in the token formatting.

b In addition to this, you can add custom text to individual file names by using the Custom Text column in the queue table.

 

OPTIONS

Page Numbers > Number of digits
Specify the desired number of digits in page numbers in file name.
For example, if "3" is selected, the page 23 will be listed as 023.
If this option is unchecked, page numbers will be inserted as is.
Note: This option only affects numerical page numbers. For example, a page named "Intro 1" will not be affected.
Note: This option is ignored when exporting a specific page range as a single file.

Batch Serial Number
Specify the starting batch serial number and its formatting. the serial number will increase automatically with each batch.
