Output Factory Server for InDesign User Guide

Settings > XMP Variables

Output Factory Server can output a specific page range, compose variable output file names, and use email addresses based on InDesign document's XMP metadata. This powerful feature is enabled through XMP Variables, where you define which XMP tags to use for variable values.

Use the [+]/[-] buttons to create/delete XMP Variables. Once variable is created, it becomes available in the Page Range and File Naming workflow settings, as well as the Email Templates settings.

Note: 2-Tag Variables are only relevant if you're using a specialized XMP plug-in. For all standard InDesign metadata, use 1-Tag Variable.

For the detailed info on available URI and tag names, go to File > File Info > Raw Data panel in InDesign.

You can also insert custom XMP data using appropriate InDesign plug-ins and built-in options. Other third-party software can also set InDesign metadata during processing.

Example
Suppose you'd like to use the document's Author property in your variable file names.
The screenshots below demonstrate how to create an XMP variable for this property.
